Online Education CenterNatural HorsemanshipMy Natural Horsemanship DiscoveryNatural horsemanship was a god-send for me. I was having difficulty with a new Kiger Mustang I had adopted and I had run out of ideas of how to work with her. She and I were on a path of destruction. We each wanted to kill the other and I was determined to sell her. Then one evening, working on my graduate studies, I overheard a cowboy speaking on the TV talking about learning styles in horses. He talked about understanding "horsenality" and knowing a right brained from left brained horse. This was something I had never heard about before and it coincided with what I was learning in graduate school to become an adult education instructor. It was at this moment I had a paradigm shift in how I viewed and related to my horses. I have since been on a mission to learn as much as I can about horses, who they are, the leadership that they crave and how to take care of them in the way they would like to be cared for. This consideration of the thought patterns of the horse is often completly the opposite of how we think they would like to be cared for. I urge every horse owner to find a learning path that suits them. There are many good natural horsemanship programs available, but I will be highlighting the ones that I have gotten the most out of.
