Photo Gallery - Chickens

Bob the Rooster - how the idea of chickens came to be for me. Bob was left on our rural mailbox one night in December. We brought him home to live in the barn with the horses. He quickly became an integral part of our lives. He followed us around like a dog, he came in the house in the mornings for breakfast and a nap on a lap. He was so adamant about his lap time, he would race the cat to see who could get to the lap first. They then would share their space and nap together. Bob was a Buff Orpington cross (our best guess). He was a fine boy. Bob died during a small surgury to clear an infected ear.

Poppy Cock - Poppy is a Black Australorp. He is one of the first chicks I purchased after loosing Bob the Rooster. He was supposed to be girl - but with a 15% chance of getting a male, he was statistically perfect. He is beautiful, but is a bully.

Olive (hen) and Basil (rooster) - These Barred Rocks were dumped on Wallace Creek Road. I have not determined anything wrong with them to justify dumping them (though there is never any reason good enough to dump any creature). Olive lays beautifully large eggs; Basil is spurless and crowless - not to mention a gentle soul. I certainly feel I have gained by having them in my flock.
